Obituary for Vernon V. Burrus
Vernon V. Burrus, 68, died Friday evening in Altus. Funeral services will be held Monday Morning at First Baptist Church at 10:30 am with Rev. Melvin Moody officiating. Interment will follow in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Burrus was born March 18, 1929, in Decatur, Illinois, to Oscar Augustus and Annetta Marie (Dalby) Burrus. In 1942 the family moved to a farm in southeast Kansas.
On August 31, 1951, he married his childhood sweetheart, Letha Mast. Following his service in the U.S. Army the couple made their home in Wichita, Kansas, where he had his own business, working as a cabinetmaker. In 1967 he expanded his business and moved to western Kansas.
He came to Altus in 1980 as a general manager of the West Central Mfg., Inc. Oklahoma plant.
He has served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher in Baptist churches in Plainville and Oberlin, Kansas, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altus where he and Letha worked in the pre-school department.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Bernice. Survivors include his wife, Letha, o f the home; two daughters; Fawn L. Burrus-Romine and husband, Robert, of Prattville, Alabama; and Cindy S, LeVieux and husband, Michael, of Erueka, Kansas; two sisters; Karen
Ebberts and Patricia Strickler, both of Eureka, Kansas; two brothers; Thomas of Cheney, Kansas, and Kenneth of Blanchard, Oklahoma; two grandchildren; Zachary LeVieux and Leah Romine; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Giedeon Society.
