Obituary for Viola Mildred Barton
Services are scheduled for Viola Mildred Barton at 11:00 a,m,, Thursday, March 5, 1998 at the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Viola M. Barton was born August 24th, 1905 at Hobart, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of the late James and Hattie (Francy) Bryan. She died March 3rd, 1998 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
She married John Shearl Barton, May 9, 1925 at the Methodist Parsonage in Hobart, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, June 16, 1985. Viola was a longtime resident of Altus and Jackson County having resided here since 1933. She was also a longtime member of the Elm & Hudson Church of Christ. Viola taught school nearly 40 years. She taught in the Hobart School District, in the Mangum School District and retired from the Altus School District. She was a member of the OEA, NEA, Retired Teachers Association, and also a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Barton of Altus and Patsy Darby of Duke, Oklahoma; one son, Shearl D. Barton of Chouteau, OK; one sister, Beulah Livermore of Altus, Oklahoma; one brother, Orlan Bryan of California; nine grandchildren, Robert Darby, Donald Joe Reece, Suezan Stone, Ken Darby, John Barton, Bart Reece, Richard Darby, Mary Freeman and Jim Bob Barton; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother; one sister.
Memorials in honor of Viola M. Barton may be made to the Westview Boys Home.
