Obituary for Violet Azell Ward
Violet Azell Ward, 83, of Roosevelt, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Azell was born August 24, 1925 in Rose, Oklahoma, to Andy and Rettie (Gore) Monk. She grew up working hard on neighboring farms with her family. She was the oldest of eight children and the only girl.
Azell married Floyd Ward March 19, 1945 in Dickens, Texas. They had three wonderful children and enjoyed many years together before Floyd's death October 30, 1988. The Ward family moved from Rose to Roosevelt, Oklahoma, in 1964. After moving to Roosevelt, she continued to work on farms in the area and later worked on an egg farm in Warren, Oklahoma, in the early 1960's. She started cleaning houses for many families in the area and was also a substitute mail carrier during the 1980's. She was active in the Senior Citizens where she volunteered to cook for many community functions. Azell was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Roosevelt.
She is survived by one son, Andy "Sonny" Ward and wife Carol of Pryor, Oklahoma; two daughters, Faye Greear and husband Jerry of Mountain Park, Oklahoma and Janice Long and husband Roy of Yukon, Oklahoma; one brother, Marvin "Jerry" Monk and wife Vivian of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Many friends and church family who loved her dearly also survive her.
Azell was preceded in death by her parents, Andy and Rettie Monk, her husband, Floyd Ward, six brothers, Carl, Jack, Carmon, Calvin, Ira and Earl Monk and one great-grandson, Christopher Lee Greear.
