Obituary for Violet Mae Bassel Roberson
Violet Mae Bassel Roberson, age 79, of Duke, Oklahoma passed away Friday, March 19, 2004 at Jackson County Memorial. Services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 22, 2004 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Ardron Hinton and Eddie Beard officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Cemetery under the directions of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Violet was born May 1, 1924 in Jackson County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Joe and Alma (Jackson) McKibbin. She grew up in the Duke area. On October 9, 1942, Violet and Otis Bassel were united in marriage in Durant, Oklahoma. Otis preceded her in death October 5, 1986. On June 15, 1991, Violet married Ernie Roberson in Duke, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death August 25, 1998.
Violet was a member of the Duke Church of Christ. She also belonged to the Wednesday Club, the Town and Country Club and the Bridge Club. Violet was an elaborate seamstress and loved to make clothing for her family, who were the love of her life. She also enjoyed playing cards as often as possible. She was an insurance agent for Farmers Union Insurance and owned the Bassel Agency in Duke.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Otis Bassel and Ernie Roberson; four brothers and sisters, Joe Dial McKibbin, Ozell Marie Smith, Clay Allen McKibbin and Josie Oreatha Moore; and by one grandson, Tobin Luke Bassel.
Violet is lovingly survived by two sons, Rodney Bassel of Lawton and Larry and JoAnn Bassel of Duke and their children, Jason Birdwell of Wayne, Oklahoma, Theodore and Danica Birdwell and their son Clayton of Duke and Tanner Bassel of Duke; one daughter, Lisa and Joe Renfro of Duke and granddaughter, Megan and Raymond Ornelas and great-grandchildren, Colby, Alyssa and Conner of Duke; granddaughter, Haley and Randy Allen of Childress, Texas; and grandson, Kade Renfro of Duke.
