Obituary for Virginia "Jenna" Dare Scarbrough
Virginia Dare (Jenna) Scarbrough died on Friday, May 21, 1999, after an extended illness. Along-time resident of Altus, Oklahoma, she was born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, on May 18, 1935. Mrs Scarbrough was a former dancer and teacher of the dances and was also formerly employed by the Oklahoma Employment Offices. She was also a graduate of Altus High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Altus, where earlier she had been active in the Christian Education programs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob R, Scarbrough, an attorney who was also a long-time resident of Jackson County, to who she was married on May 5, 1961, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Joanne Burkes Callan, of San Diego, California, and Teresa Burkes Sullivan, Camden, Arkansas; her stepmother, Mrs. Hubbert Burkes, Camden, Arkansas. and her brother-in-law, James R. Callan, and niece, Megan Callan, also of San Diego, California; and niece and nephew, Misty Sullivan Freeman and Clay Sullivan of Camden, Arkansas.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Mrs Scarbrough's memory either to St. Paul's Episcopal Christian Education Fund at Thomas and A streets in Altus, Oklahoma, or to Stevens Cancer Center c/o Scripps foundation, P O Box 2669, La Jolla, California 92038 (in memory of Jenna Scarbrough).
Memorial services for Jenna Scarbrough will be at 2:00 pm Monday, May 24, 1999, St. Paul's Episcopal church with Father Duggan officiating. assisted by Father James Mahan.
A reception will follow in the Church Parish Hall.
