Obituary for Virginia Ruth Anderson
Virginia Anderson, age 98, a longtime Altus, Oklahoma resident, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at her home in Altus.
Virginia was born on March 6, 1923, in Altus, Oklahoma to her parents James Marvin Moore and Alva Lee Holland Moore. Virginia was raised in Altus and attended school there. After graduating from Altus High School in 1940, Virginia attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. It was at Wheaton College that Virginia met Larry Anderson. Larry and Virginia were married on August 23, 1942, at the First Baptist Church in Altus. They lived in Chicago, Illinois until they moved to Altus in 1948. Larry was owner and manager of Moore's Wholesale Grocery until his retirement in 1984.
Virginia was a long-time active member of the Aldonian and McDowell Clubs, a founding member of the K.A.Y Club ,and a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry and her son, Frank. Virginia is survived by two sons; Gary and his wife, Donna of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Jim and his wife, Marilyn of Centennial, Colorado; one daughter: Liz and her husband, Bob Oakley of Edmond, Oklahoma.
Virginia's grandchildren are; Carrie Herk and her husband Cole of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Matt Anderson of New York, New York; Catherine Anderson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Christine Hart and her husband Eric of Austin, Texas.
Virginia has two great-grandchildren; Lauren Herk and Max Herk of Ft. Collins, Colorado.
The family would like to wish a heartfelt thank you to Brenda Beauchamp, Dr. Joe Leverett, Tyne, and Reva for their care of Virginia. Throughout the last several years there have been so many people that helped Virginia maintain her appointments and activities in Altus. Without their help Virginia could not have stayed active and her family wishes their utmost thanks to all who helped Virginia.
The Family will greet friends at Visitation from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Graveside Funeral services will at 11:00 am on Friday, December 24, 2021 at the Altus City Cemetery with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating.
Family has requested that any donations be made to the First Baptist Church in Altus, OK
