Obituary for Walter Bee Mitchell
Walter Mitchell, age 64, a long-time resident of Altus and formerly of Mountain Park, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, November 24, 2008 in Altus with his loved ones by his side.
Walter was born in Mountain Park, Oklahoma on December 17, 1943 to Edgar B. and Cordelia (Davis) Mitchell. Walter joined the U.S. Navy as a Boatmaster in 1962 and retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force as an Avionics Instrument Systems Specialist. In total Walter had over 22 years of service to his country with an honorable discharge in 1984. His decorations include: the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He was a member of the DAV of Altus. Walter was a main-stay at the Friendship Inn and he lived in the Friendship Inn Apartments for 20 years. He enjoyed being at the Friendship Inn Cafe and spending time with friends, reading the paper, drinking coffee and eating there. HE enjoyed spending time with his special friend Marilyn and they would drive around and she would take him back home to Mountain Park where he liked to visit anytime he could and he really enjoyed eating at Mel's Diner and visiting with the waitresses there. Walter loved animals, especially his dog Callie, and he helped the Altus Animal Shelter by donating to them. He always liked giving to people and was always giving away small gifts to people. Walter was a good and caring person who loved being around his friends and loved ones and he will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Coy Mitchell; four half-brothers; two half-sisters; Walter is survived by one half-brother, Curtis Leroy Mitchell of California; one niece, Earlene Perry; one special friend, Marilyn Brakebill of Altus; other relatives; and a host of other friends.
