Obituary for Walter Lee Durrough

Walter Lee Durrough, a longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on March 29, 2026, in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of forty-seven. Walter was born on March 16, 1979, in Altus, Oklahoma, to his mother, Clowese Alvin Durrough. From the very beginning, Walter's life was marked by both challenge and extraordinary love. Though doctors once believed he would not live beyond the age of ten, Walter defied all expectations and became a lasting testament to strength, resilience, and the power of care.

Walter was raised in Altus and lovingly cared for by Fannie Crowley, who provided him with a nurturing home and unwavering devotion throughout his life. Though non-verbal, Walter communicated in ways that were deeply felt by those around him. His joyful vocalizations, often described as his "singing," brought warmth, comfort, and life to every space he entered.

Walter found happiness in life's simplest pleasures. He loved playing with yarn and beads, listening to music, and rocking back and forth in peaceful contentment. These small joys reflected a gentle spirit that needed no words to be understood.

He was supported by dedicated educators, including his special teacher, Mrs. Grimmes at Roosevelt, as well as Desare Walker, who each played a meaningful role in his life and development.

In 2015, Walter became part of the Community Access family, where he quickly grew into a beloved and constant presence in the home he shared with others. He formed close bonds with his roommates and caregivers, especially his dear friend and roommate, Nate. In recent months, Walter experienced the loss of three cherished roommates, Ronald, Rajelio, and Blake, yet he continued to bring his own unique light and joy to those around him.

Walter's life was a beautiful reflection of love beyond words. His presence filled his home with a special kind of energy one that will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

He leaves behind his loving siblings: Safetha Durrough, Nichole Durrough, Cynthia Durrough, and his brother Domonick Durrough, along with a community of caregivers, friends, and loved ones who were forever touched by his life.

Preceding Walter in death was his mother Clowese, his older sister Angela Clark, and Fannie Crowley.

Scripture reminds us, "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth." (Psalm 100:1). Walter truly lived this verse in his own way each day. We also take comfort in the promise of Revelation 21:4, "He will wipe every tear from their eyes; there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain."

Walter Lee Durrough will be remembered for the joy he brought, the love he gave, and the quiet yet powerful way he touched every heart around him. His life, though different, was deeply meaningful, and his memory will forever remain a blessing to all who were honored to know him.

Services have been entrusted to Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
