Obituary for Warren Burnham Wilson
Warren Burnham Wilson went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 23, 2015. Born in Florence, Kansas on December 24, 1923, to Louis E. and Willetta Wilson, he joined the family of one sister and three brothers.
The family moved to Muleshoe, Texas, then to a fruit farm in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1936, the Wilsons moved to Altus and later to an oil lease on the C.E. Johnson farm southeast of Altus. The two families became close friends.
Warren started eighth grade at Humphreys School graduating in 1942. While there he met Joy Northington. He was the baseball team's left-handed pitcher.
In 1943, Warren joined the Army Air Corps flying on the B-17and B-24. At Maxwell Field, Alabama he trained to be a Flight Engineer on B-29s. After his discharge, he attended Oklahoma A&M College graduating in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Math minor. He was a licensed Professional Engineer.
In 1947, he married his high school sweetheart Joy Northington and they celebrated sixty-eight happy years together.
He was employed by Dow Chemical, Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Mines and Base Civil Engineers at Altus Air Force Base, retiring in 1984.
He enjoyed the Moses Sunday School class at First Baptist Church where he was a member forty-five years. Music brought joy to his life. He played the harmonica from an early age and began piano lessons at age sixty. For years he played his harmonica at English Village and Tamarack where he loved the fellowship.
Preceded in death by his parents, his sister and three brothers, he is survived by his wife Joy, son Brent Wilson (Becky) of McKinney, Texas, daughter Jone Gittinger (Bruce) of Cape Charles, Virginia. Grandchildren: Amanda Tabor (Josh) and their son, Braxton; Dr. Alexis Wilson; Benjamin Gittinger; Joseph Gittinger; Shelley and Laura Loy; and Stephanie Gittinger; one niece and seven nephews and three sisters-in-law.
Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church, Altus, Oklahoma or to a charity of your choice.
Private Memorial Services were held 10:00 am. Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Altus City Cemetery with Dr. Jeff Moore officiation. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
