Obituary for Wayne Ellis
Wayne Ellis was born Wayne Wininger to John and Una Wininger. This event took place April 3, 1921 at Seymour, Texas. When he was a mere two years old, his mother died. He was then adopted by his paternal aunt and uncle, John and Alice (Wininger) Ellis. He came to Southwestern Oklahoma where he attended area schools and primarily lived the remainder of his life.
He was married to Rubie Ellen Cornell October 16, 1943 at Tabernacle Baptist Parsonage by Reverend Wayne Imboden. They were married for 39 years. She preceded him in death in December 1982. He was a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he and his wife, Rubie, at one time were most active and served in many capacities.
Wayne Ellis proudly served his country during WWII while in the United States Navy.
He was a loyal employee of Public Service Company of Oklahoma, retiring after 25 years of service. He also served, to the best of his ability, the City of Altus as a City Councilman in Ward I from March 1976 through May 1983.
He was married to Juanita (McElroy) Dorsett in Granite, OK in 1993. She preceded him in death in 1994.
Survivors include: his children, daughter, Linda (Ellis) Journagan of Altus; granddaughter, Shawnna Journagan of Blue Springs, MO. His grandson, Eric Journagan of Kansas City, MO. Other survivors include his brothers and sisters, Oscar Wininger of Belton, TX, Elbert Wininger of Rockport, TX, Syble Labis of Hutto, TX, Edna Phillips of Oklahoma City, OK, Lillie Ashcraft of Clinton, OK. He is also survived by a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by one brother, Clarence (Wininger) Allison; five sisters, Alma Sights, Evelyn Blythe, Mary Fielder, Norma Vogel, Euna Beckner.
***Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, September 11, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Carl McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
****Family will be receiving friends Thursday evening, September 10, 1998 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
