Obituary for Weaver Creed
Weaver Creed Weaver Creed, longtime resident of Altus and Southwest Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2000. Funeral services have been scheduled at 11:00 AM, Monday, November27, 2000 at the First Baptist Church of Altus with Rev. Eugene Foreman officiating Interment will follow in the Altus City, Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home. The family will receive guest from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Sunday at the Funeral Home . Born September 22, 1915 in Altus, Mr. Creed grew up in Quannah Texas and Mangum, Oklahoma. He graduated from Mangum High School and Oklahoma Baptist University. It was at OBU that he met his future wife, Beverly Bruce. After serving as assistant to Congressman Victor Wickersham in Washington, D'.C. the Creeds established a home in Mangum where Weaver entered the family wholesale and ice cream business. While living in Mangum, he also served as Mayor. The Creeds moved to Altus in 1958 and Mr. Creed entered the real estate and insurance business. Weaver Creed believed in service to community and to God. Among the numerous roles in which he served are Deacon and Chairman of Deacons at First Baptist Church, Sunday School Superintendent and Training Union Director. He served as President of the Kiwanis Club in Mangum and Altus and as Lt.Governor of the District. He was a member of the Kiwanis for over 50 years with perfect attendance. Mr. Creed was a former President of the Altus Chamber of Commerce for two years, Representative to the Silver Hared Legislature and member of the PionAir Aviation Club and numerous other community and charity organizations. He was among the first to serve as a tutor for the Great Plains Literacy Council. In 1988, Mr. Creed received the "Five Who Care Award" which recognized and honored his service to the community and to others. He enjoyed swimming when possible and in fact helped to raise money for the Red Cross by participating in the Red Cross Swim and maintained an active interest in Kiwanis and his church. Mr. Creed is survied by his wife, Beverly; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Stacy Creed, granddaughter Erin Creed of Seward, Nebraska; daughter, Carol Atchison and granddaughter, Christy, Susan and Alyson Atchison of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister Marietta Pilger of Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
