Obituary for Willa Lee Goodwin
Willa Lee Caster Goodwin died January 16, 2003. Services will be held Monday, January 20, at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 317 N. Main.

She was born March 27, 1917, in Altus to Dora and Frazier Caster. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dillard Caster. Willa Lee graduated from Altus High School in 1935, married her high school sweetheart, Bernard Hines and went on to earn an associate degree at Altus Junior College.

three daughters, Linda, Margie, and Karen, and a son, Jim were born to them.
She enjoyed helping her husband run The Charcoal Hut and became well-known for her home-baked pies.

In 1954 she opened Jim Dandy Kindergarten, and many of her students went on to become outstanding professionals in Altus and around the country. After Mr. Hines died in 1964, she went back to school and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

In 1968 she married Arthur Goodwin, who had one daughter and son, Jane and Lynn Goodwin. For the next 12 years she taught first grade at Eugene Field Elementary School. During her years teaching kindergarten and first grade she mentored hundreds of children, and she loved each one. She continued as a substitute teacher, tutor and mentor several years after her retirement.

In addition to teaching, Willa Lee enjoyed playing bridge, Playing handbells at First United Methodist, and participating in United Methodist Women, Literary Club and Aldonian Club. She loved people, and was always taking her home-baked pies to friends in need. She loved Altus, her family, and going for a coke with lots of ice.

She is survived by her children Linda and Ray Chisum, Placentia, CA; Margie and Phillip Garrison, Altus; and Karen and Bob Christian, St. Louis Mo; Jim and Joyce Hines, Kingfisher, OK; Jane Goodwin, Amarillo, TX; and Lynn and Shari Goodwin, Tulsa, OK; a sister, Reba and Buster Ray, Altus; grandchildren Carol and Jon Rogers, Rob and Lesley Christian, Toby Garrison, Michael and Anne Christian, Wayne and Millie Garrison, David and Aishah Chisum, Andrea and Sal Herrera, Amy Young, Christy and Tony Pennington, and Julie Goodwin; great grandchildren, Lauren and Claire Rogers; Taylor, Bailey and Nick Christian; Danielle, Michael and Joey Christian; Alexa and Piersen Garrison; Zoie Chisum; Ahna and Ehma Herrera; and Madeline Young; a niece, Beth and Mike Roth; and special friends Bob and Pam Darwin.

The family will receive guests from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Sunday evening.
