Obituary for William Billy Ray
William C. "Bill" Ray, 93, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 at English Village Nursing Center.

Bill was born March 28, 1917 in the Ozark Community east of Altus to Clyde Lee and Florence Ella (Howerton) Ray. He married Mary Ellon Wise and shared many happy years with her before she preceded him in death in 1989.

Bill was a very industrious man who started out as a delivery boy for Altus Drug and worked and studied hard until he became a Pharmacist. He was very civic and community minded and was involved in most things that were important to Altus. He was a lifetime member of the Altus Chamber of Commerce, a big promoter of the Altus Air Force Base and everything that would help Altus to grow. He was very involved in the youth of our community as well. Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending services. But his absolute pride was his three great-grandsons, Damien, William and Gage. He loved nothing more than watching their activities and spending time with them. Bill loved his horses and horse racing. He was a man of many varied interests which made him a very interesting man in return. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellon; two brothers, Lynn Ray and Herbert "Buster" Ray; and one grandson, Jeffrey Ray.

Bill is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Cindy Ray, one granddaughter, Joelle Dickenson, three great-grandson, Damien Ray, William Ray and Gaga Dickenson all of Altus; one sister, Katherine Milton of Edmond, Oklahoma; a very special friend, Glen Myers; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services have been scheduled for 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Keith Dodson officiating. Interment will be in the Altus City Cemetery. Lowell-Tims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
