William Carrol Hendricks, 67, longtime resident of Mangum, passed away Friday morning, April 3, 2015, at his residence, in Mangum.

William was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on January 1, 1948, to William and Vernita (Simpson) Hendricks. He graduated from Mangum High School in the 1960’s and joined the United States Army on January 9, 1968. While stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, William was a member of the 5th US Army, 24th Infantry Division. He received medals and badges for the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge for Expert Rifleman, Vietnam Service Medal, One Overseas Bar, One Company Grade Machine Gun Award, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Rifle Sharpshooter Medal. He was honorably discharged on February 13, 1970 after two years of service. After his return to Mangum, he met the love of his life, Joyce Satterwhite, and they were married on August 28, 1972, in Wellington, Texas. William and Joyce settled in Mangum where they raised their family and they spent forty-one wonderful years together before Joyce’s death on July 22, 2014. William worked at the Altus Air Force Base Fire Department, retiring as chief, after over thirty years of service. He was a Mason for years and attended church at St. Zion Baptist Church, in Mangum. He loved his family very much and enjoyed attending all of his children’s sports activities. William also enjoyed spending time with his grandbabies, fishing and golfing. He will be greatly missed.

Preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Tommy Lee Hendricks; one daughter, Valinda Davis-Hendricks and one brother, Johnny Ray Hendricks, William is survived by one son, Ronald Keith Hendricks, of Mangum; one daughter Elizabeth Ann Hendricks of Muskogee, Oklahoma; one brother, Robert Hendricks of Mangum; four sisters, Essie Lee Singletary of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Wanda Hendricks of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Johnetta and Verneal Williams of Oklahoma City and Bertha Spencer and husband Charles of Mangum; three grandchildren, Juanita Jirae Hendricks, Tarell Keith Hendricks and Faith Marie Hendricks; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for William Hendricks will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at the Mangum Church of Christ with James Callins officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
