William Don Ashley, age 67, of Noble, Oklahoma, formerly of Altus, passed away late Sunday night, February 21, 2016, at Mercy Hospital, in Ada.
Don was born in Granite, Oklahoma on November 5, 1948, to Rosco and Donnie Inez (Smith) Winningham. Because of their poor health, Don and his brother, Raymond, were placed in foster care and later he was lovingly adopted by Harvey and Mamie Ashley at the age of three years old. A 1967 graduate of Altus High School, Don attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. A longtime member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Don was musically gifted, playing the accordion, organ, and piano masterfully. Don ministered with music playing at Furr"s Cafeteria, local nursing homes, hospital, church and any other place he could be a blessing.
Preceded in death by his birth and adopted parents; a brother, Raymond, a brother, David Ashley; his grandparents, Charlie and Nellie Smith of Granite, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Linda Ashley of Kansas City, Missouri; one uncle, Don Smith of Norman; one aunt, Mary Ethel Pollard of Tecumseh; brothers, HC Clopp and wife Janice of Granite, Ron Sherrill and wife Dee Dee of Corinth, Texas, Buddy Baker of Madera, California; sisters, Edna Fay and husband Larry of California and Faye Sigle and husband John of Lubbock, Texas along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends whom he dearly loved.
Funeral services for Don Ashley will be at 2 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2016, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Gregory Hawn officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
