Obituary for William G. Lewis
William "Bill" Glenn Lewis, Olustee resident, passed away on July 3, 2022 at the VA Center in Clinton, Oklahoma. He was 85 years old at the time of his death
William was born in Danville, Pennsylvania on August 30, 1936 to William Lewis and Evelyn Lewis (Fegley). He was raised and educated in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. William joined the United States Air Force in 1964. He specialized in aircraft mechanics for planes and engines providing full aircraft maintenance. William was an inflight Maintenance Supervisor and mechanic on the the KC130 and the KC 135 . He was to make sure everything was in working so they could keep fighter jets and other aircraft refueled. With many years of dedicated service and experience he was promoted to maintenance supervisor where he taught young airman.
He was stationed at numerous airbases inside the United States and internationally these included: Shepard AFB, Whitman AFB, MO, Okinawa, Harlingen AFB, Dyessm, AFB and Altus, Air Force Base. He proudly served his country in Vietnam and achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant prior to honorably discharging from duty after twenty - two years of devoted service to his country.
William met the love of his life (Nancy ) while stationed at Harlingen, Texas. They met at church where the pastor played match-maker and introduced them to each other. The rest is History! On September 15, 1956, William and Nancy married and their blessed union spanned 65 years.
In his work career, William worked at Western Oklahoma State College. In Altus, OK. He worked in the maintenance department but also served as the pool technician, security guard, electrician, grounds keeper and plumber. After twenty - one years of loyal employment with the college, William became a professional coffee drinker and lawnman for the churches and other places in Olustee. He was an extremely loving and social person and always had an ice cream or coke on hand for the neighborhood children.
His kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit will forever remembered by all who knew him.
William was preceded in death by is parents and his brother, Jay Lewis.
Survivors include: his wife of more than 65 years, Nancy Lewis; his sons: David Allan Lewis and his wife, Lesa; Darrell Dewayne Lewis and his wife, Betty; and Darrin Anthony Lewis and his wife, Ruth Ann; his daughter: Diana Lynn Bruce and her husband, James; his twin brother: Robert "Bob" Lewis; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives, friends, neighbors and church family.
