Obituary for William Lee McClendon
William Lee McClendon, 75, resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on June 9th, 2020. On July 3rd, 1944, Lee was born in Maud, Oklahoma, to John Emmett McClendon and Mary Jane (Marlow) McClendon. In 1963, he graduated from high school in Mesa, Arizona. On February 4th, 1963, Lee joined the United States Army serving in communications, coding, and decoding top-secret messages for two tours of duty in Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended the Oklahoma School of Banking and Business, where he received his degree. While visiting his parents in Mangum, Oklahoma, he met Donna Marcia Carper, and the two were united in marriage on March 20th, 1971. He was employed with Green Motor Company in Altus, for over twenty years as the office manager. After Green's closed, he began working for Dixon-Kirchoff in Hollis, for eleven years. He continued his career at Altus Athletics/OK-1 until his retirement. Once retired, he began to volunteer as a tax preparer for the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for six years. Lee was a member of the Altus Masonic Lodge #62, serving as Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 1984. He was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Lee enjoyed gardening, carpentry, and loved playing with his dogs. He was an extravert and enjoyed meeting new people and learning their life stories. Lee was a loving husband and father to his two children and a proud grandpa to his granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Emmett McClendon, and mother Mary Jane (Marlow) McClendon. His brothers, Eddie McClendon, Ralph McClendon, and sisters, Ruth McColm, Ruby Sherrard, and Virda Taylor.
Lee is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna Marcia McClendon. His son, Matthew McClendon of San Jose, California. His daughter, Melissa Lederer, and her husband David, and daughters Meghan and Emily, all of Farmington, Utah. His brothers, Carroll McClendon and Don McClendon, sisters, Hattie Sue Ball, and Darlene Weaver, along with numerous cousins and extended family.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 15th, 2020, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus, Oklahoma. Interment will follow, with military honors, at Restlawn Cemetery also in Altus, Oklahoma.
