CARDER
Willie D. "Bill" Carder, 91 year old lifelong resident of Altus, passed away Monday evening, February 8, 2016, at Plantation Village Bridges in Altus.
Bill was born in Honey Grove, Texas on October 20, 1924 to his parents Roy and Laura (Hall) Carder. Bill graduated from Altus High School class of 1943 and in July of that same year entered the United States Marine Corps during WWII. Bill was deployed to the South Pacific and fought in the Battle of Peleliu in September of 1944. Bill received an honorable discharge and came back home to Altus and married the love of his life Sallie Jo Burke on November 1947 in Altus and they were married over 68 years before Bill"s death. He went to Cameron Junior College where he played tight end in the Junior College National Championship game at the Little Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. After college Bill came home to run the family farm and worked for the Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base and retired from the Civil Service after 32 years. Bill was a member of the Tamarack Road Church of Christ where he was active in the Silver Saints and Bill and Sallie Jo ran the food room for many years. He was also a member of the NARF and the American Legion. Bill enjoyed running his farm and doing yard work and reading and most of all he treasured his family and time spent with his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bobby Dale Carder; sister-in-law, Mary Beth Carder; and one granddaughter, Stefanie JeJuan Carder; Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sallie Jo of the home; three sons, Mackey Carder and wife Priscilla of Texas; Bob Carder of Altus; and Eddy Carder and wife Leeanne of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Shawn, Cody, Chase, and Zachary; three great grandchildren, Jace, Layce, Caroline, and Liam; three great great grandchildren, Ava, Avery, and Asher; as well as nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
The family will greet friends for visitation from 6:30 until 7:30 pm, Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Tamarack Road Church of Christ in Altus with Clint Burns officiating. Military burial will follow with the United States Marine Corps rendering honors at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus.
