Willie Mae Savage, age 88, of Bethany, Oklahoma, formerly of Altus, passed away Wednesday evening, August 27, 2014, in Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Savage was born, north of Headrick, Oklahoma on August 17, 1926, to Claude and Everal (Goodfellow) Berry. After graduating from Headrick School, Willie Mae attended Oklahoma City University where she graduated with a bachelor of music degree. In October 1946, Willie Mae married Albert Houpe and they moved to Dallas, Texas with Albert"s employment. Moving back to Headrick for a short time, the family later moved to Clovis, New Mexico where Albert managed a radio station. In 1958, they moved back to Altus and Willie Mae taught music at Friendship and Olustee Schools. Willie Mae also served as the Altus City Clerk during the 1970"s. After Albert"s death in 1970, she married Marlon Savage on November 11, 1976 and he preceded her in death in 2013. In 1996, Willie Mae and Marlon retired to Oklahoma City to be near their children.
A loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Willie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands; one son, John Houpe; two step sons, Larry Savage and David Savage and a step-granddaughter, Lindsey Savage. She is survived by one daughter, Deahn Savage and husband Michael of Bethany; two step daughters, Beverly Stone and husband Hardy of Walkersville, Maryland and Jan Hard and husband Louis of Denver, Colorado; one stepson, Gayle Savage and wife Karen of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter-in-law, Irene Savage of Detroit, Michigan; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren along with many other friends and relatives.
Funeral services for Willie Mae Savage will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
