Obituary for Willie Richard Burge
Services for Willie Richard "Bill" Burge, age 93, have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9th, 1998, at the First United Methodist Church in Eldorado with Rev. Ken Coleman and Rev. Don Harrold officiating. Interment will follow in the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.

Bill was born October 6th, 1905, in Bells, Texas to James Homer and Lucinda (Gilley) Burge. On February 4, 1923, Bill and Mary Alice Bogue were united in marriage at Lazare, TX. Mary preceded him in death July 14, 1994 after 71 years of marriage.

Bill worked as a cowboy on the Goodnight Ranch in Goodnight, TX for many years. He then moved his family to Oklahoma where he became involved with farming. In 1955, he entered the field of Law Enforcement. In 1957, he moved his family from Olustee to Eldorado where Mr. Burge became the town marshall. Through the years he worked in many capacities, such as County Deputy and Judge. Although he retired, Bill was called back into service many times before his final retirement in 1987.

Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eldorado. He was very involved in all areas of small town life. He went to most ballgames and knew most of the area children by name. He was a fun-loving individual and was known for his mischevious pranks. Bill was a much loved and respected part of his community and will be missed greatly by family and friends alike.

Mr. Burge was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary; six brothers, Clyde, Alfred, Grover, Leon, Joe and George; two grandchildren, Dennis Burge and Mika Burge; and by two great-grandchildren, Randy Gillis and Troy Allen Doughten.

He is survived by eight children and their spouses, Loraine and Dow Kendrick of Denver, CO, Billy and Ester Burge of Denver, CO, Mary and C.J. Maheu of Duke, OK, Sally and Clyde Hickerson of Gould, OK, Peggy and Jack Averman of Denver, CO, Bobby and Linda Burge of Cleburne, TX, Beth and Jerry Crow of Oklahoma City, OK and David and Barbara Burge of Eldorado, OK; and one sister, Doshia Whitman of Hollis, OK. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
