Obituary for Willie Wayne Spradlin
Willie Wayne Spradlin, age 88, of Quanah, Texas, formerly of Eldorado, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 14, 2013, at Hardeman County Memorial Hospital, in Quanah.
Wayne was born in Hollis, Oklahoma, on July 5, 1925, to James Rett and Catherine (Fellers) Spradlin. Growing up on the family farm, Wayne attended Lincoln School, near Eldorado, until joining the United States Navy during his senior year. After being honorably discharged, Wayne completed his schooling and began drilling water wells in Oklahoma and Texas. Moving to Quanah, he married Mae Podrovich and they moved to Colorado City, Colorado where he drilled water wells for the next forty years. With Mae"s declining health, they moved to Pueblo where they lived until Mae"s death. Wayne later was reunited with his and Mae"s dear friend and through "friendship, memories and a bologna sandwich", rekindled their relationship and he and Dorothy Garner were then married on September 13, 2012. In January 2013, they moved to Quanah where he lived until his death. In his spare time, Wayne enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes and spending time with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carol Jackson Spradlin; his wife Mae; five brothers, J.R. Spradlin, E.J. Spradlin, Leslie Spradlin, Aubrey Spradlin, Carter Spradlin and three sisters, Bonnie White, Olene King and Madalene Thompson, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy Spradlin of Quanah, Texas; six children, James Rayland Spradlin and wife Esther of Arizona, Christie Jo Roach of Elk City, Kathie Flanigan and husband Rick of Bethany, Oklahoma, JoDean Kline and husband Ray of Canyon City, Colorado, Frankie Scott and husband Ken of Colorado City, Colorado and Chuck Garner and wife Jacque of Wellington, Texas along with several grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services for Wayne Spradlin will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the Corinth Baptist Church, 10 miles west of Eldorado, with Pastor Ricky Crouch officiating. Private family inurnment services will be held at a later date. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Eldorado.
