Obituary for Wilma Lee (Harrison) Briscoe
Wilma Lee (Harrison) Briscoe Harrison Briscoe 96 a life long resident of Altus, Ok. passed away peacefully at her home on October 23. Wilma was an only child of Walter Harrison and Zelma Ray Harrison. Wilma attended Wilson Elementry, Altus Jr. High and graduated from Altus High School in 1942. Wilma was the last surviving member of her graduating class. After graduation she attended Altus Jr. College until her father became seriously ill and she had to go to work to help her mom.
Wilma was contacted by Asa B Furgeson and he offered her a job at the AAA office computing acreage. That was the beginning of her working career. She worked at the Jackson Co. agents office, court clerks office, Jackson Co. Superintendent's office, Bill Henry who was the principal at Central Jr. High asked her to be his secretary at Central Jr. High. Wilma worked at Cable Com of Altus for many years. Wilma then started what would be a 35 year career with Western Oklahoma State College in the admissions office. Wilma always credited her ability to work for a better opportunity to God. She stated and this is a direct quote" God has always watched over me and has given me good health to carry on". Wilma retired from Western Oklahoma State on July 18,2007.

Wilma and Dale Briscoe of Hess, OK. were married on June 29,1944 in Altus. Soon after Dale was drafted into the United States Army serving in Europe during WWII and also during the Korean War. Dale passed away on January 14,1992 in Altus, Ok. During their marriage they had three sons. Brent, Derek and Rodney. Wilma is survived by Brent and Robyn Briscoe of Norman, OK. and Rodney and Tammi Briscoe of Abilene, TX. Wilma's middle son Derek Briscoe proceeded her in death having died in 2010. Wilma is survived by nine grandchildren. Kevin and Jeremy Briscoe, Paul Briscoe and his wife Tamara, Ferra Blackburn and her husband Chad,Chance Briscoe and his wife Katie, Mindy Brahier, Brad Briscoe, Samantha Briscoe and Lisa Coats. Kris Briscoe died in 2014 in Atlanta, GA. Wilma is survived by nine great grandchildren. Devin and Chance Larabee, Katelyn Coats, Tye and Jaxon Briscoe, Cole and Chase Brahier, Crosby and Lyla Blackburn.

Wilma had three ladies that were very special to her. Her mother, Zelma Harrison who lived to be 103 when she died. Geneva Ray and Ruth Lewis all three were sisters and sometimes referred to as the "Golden Girls." They were very Christian ladies that never said an unkind word about anyone or to anyone. Wilma more or less became a caregiver to them during their later years. Wilma had a rare quality in that she spent most of her life helping care for others whether it was her dad during his dying days, Zelma, Ruth and Geneva or Brad and Mindy who she basically raised. What a great Christian quality to have.
Wilma once said and I quote" God never puts more on you than you can bare even though it is heavy sometimes. Her favorite bible verse was "He will never leave thee or forsake thee"
Wilma once said she still remembered the day she was saved as if were yesterday. Every time I hear the song "Just as I am" all the memories go through my mind as how I felt that day. I was nine years old when I was saved and have always felt close to God. I can't begin to tell you how many prayers He has answered for me. I am still waiting on a few but sometimes we have to wait. I thank God for giving me the courage, patience and understanding and especially my health and wonderful family.
AT THE TIME OF HER DEATH WILMA HARRISON BRISCOE HAD THE DISTINCTION OF BEING THE LONGEST SERVING MEMBER OF THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH IN ALTUS, OK. BEING BAPTIZED THERE ON APRIL 3,1935.
Heaven's doors were opened wide for a saintly lady and she will always rest in eternal peace at the right hand of God.
