Obituary for Wilma E. Martin
Wilmerth E. Martin entered her heavenly home on Marsh 5, 2004 at the age of 98. She was born on December 13, 1905 to William R. and Minnie Grimes Hartsfield in Martha (Jackson County). Wilmerth attended school at old Center School and Martha School where she graduated in 1924. She was married to Lonnie C. Martin on August 14, 1924 in Blair Methodist parsonage. Two children were born to the couple, Carolyn on August 26, 1931 and Charled, January 22, 1933.
Lonnie and Wilmerth lived on a farm near Martha from 1926 to 1978 where they were active members of the Martha community and the Martha Methodist Church. Wilmerth served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and choir member.
In 1978 Lonnie and Wilmerth moved to Altus for their retirement years where they were members of the Altus Methodist Church. After Lonnie's death in 1988, she moved to Edmond to be near her daughter. In Edmond she joined the First United Methosist Church and was a member of the Wesleyan Circle. From July 2002 to her death, Wilmerth resided in Grace Living Center of Edmond.
Survivors are her daughter, Carolyn Marshall and her husband Jerry of edmond; grandson, Robert D. Marshall and his wife Jan and two great-grandsons, Benjamin and Samuel of Carrollton, Texas. She is also survived by a niece Nelda Herrell of Wichita Falls, Texas and a son, Randy Herrell; a nephew, Bob Blackerby and wife Lena and son, David of Arlington, Texas.
Wilmerth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lonnie, son Charles Martin, two nephews, Randall Blackerby and George Blackerby.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 8, in the Lowell-Tims chapel. Burial will be in the Martha Cemetery following the service.
