Obituary for Winnie Edna Kidd
Winnie Edna Kidd died June 10, 2010, at Altus Oklahoma. she was born to the Jackson County pioneer family of James Odus and Esther (Dickson) McCormick in Greer County, Oklahoma Territory, on August 12, 1903.

Mrs Kidd attended school at Prairie Home, and then graduated from Olustee High School.. She later attended school at Southwestern State College where she earned a Master's Degree in education.

She was married to R.L. "Bob" Kidd at her parents; home on December 23, 1932. To this union three children were born; Joe Bob, Mariesta, and Charles. Mrs. Kidd was preceded in death by her husband in 1960, infant son Joe Bob shortly after birth, a daughter Mariesta Kidd Obenhaus and her husband Tommy Obenhaus. In succeeding years. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eunice McCormick and Berthelle Coe.

Mrs. Kidd taught school for more than 40 years. She taught at Porter High and Victory. She then taught at Southside a short time, followed by 3 years at Samnorwood and Wellington, Texas. She then returned to Southside where she taught until retirement. She was named Jackson County Teacher of the Year during this period.

Winnie uoined the Methodist Church as a child. Her membership was later moved to the Elmer Church.

Mrs. Kidd lived over 90 years of her life within 20 miles of her birthplace. She spent the last 4 1/2 years living with her son and his wife on the same farm that she was born on.

Winnie is survived by a son, Charley Kidd and his wife, Angela; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys O'Neal of Altus, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Norbert St. Dizier and her husband Norbert of Amarill, Texas. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Kevin Obenhaus and Melaube Beth Kidd, one great grandson, Chesley Kidd; and three nieces; Mrs Alvin Knight, Mrs Peewee Cary and Mrs. Debbie Mullican; a grandniece, Mrs. Stacy Dixon and their respective families. Also surviving are hundreds of former puplis. Mrs Kidd will be lovingly remembered by many.

Services will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at 2001, at 2:00pm in the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doug Burr officiating. Burial will follow at Altus City Cemetery.

Family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, Tuesday June 1, 2001, from &pm -9pm.
