Obituary for Yada Thelma Corbin
Yada Yates Corbin, age 95, died in her home, 331 Lakeside Drive, Friday, August 21st, 1998, at 3:00 a.m. Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Keith Wiginton and Sonny Tims officiating. Burial will be in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Mrs. Corbin was the second daughter of a pioneer family, that of Wesley and Hattie (Johnson) Schrimsher, and cherished being a first generation Oklahoman. She was born Yada Thelma Schrimsher on October 13th, 1902, in the home that the family still owns, 15 miles south of Altus in the community of Hess, OT (Oklahoma Territory). She married Elmer I. Yates in 1921 and was a partner with him in the family farm operation at Hess. He preceded her in death in 1952. She later married Paul Corbin in 1955, who preceded her in death in September 20, 1984.
She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for a number of years. She was a member of the Clionian Club, L'Aguiile Club and was an avid and accomplished bridge player. A lifelong love of reading was a vital part of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother; and two sisters.
She is survived by her three sons, Ted Yates and wife Nelda, Tom Yates and wife Ellen of Altus and John Yates and wife Aileen of Newton, Kansas; as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends Saturday night at Lowell Tims Funeral Home between the hours of 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. It requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Gideons, International.
