Obituary for Zachary Dale Estes
Zachary Dale Estes, 65, life long resident of Jackson County passed away March 11, 2022, at Elkview Medical Center in Hobart, Oklahoma.
Zac was born in Altus on January 21, 1957, to Clyde and Helen Sue (Reid) Estes. Zac graduated from Altus High School in 1975. From there, he attended Western Oklahoma State College then furthered his education at Oklahoma State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1978. Also in this year, he achieved his FFA Degree of American Farmer. Then he attended West Texas State University and attained his Master of Science in Agriculture. Along the way, he studied abroad at Oxford University in England for one summer.
After College, he was employed at the Oklahoma State Extension Office as an Integrated Pest Management Specialist. He worked there for several years before he was hired at Western Oklahoma State College as an Agriculture Instructor. He retired from teaching in 2011. His true passion was farming and ranching. He bought his first farm at 18, where later he built his family home. Zac always said, "teaching supported his family habit".
On February 21, 1991, he married Nancy Clark from Mangum. Together, they had two children, Reid and Katy. Throughout their life, he instilled a strong work ethic and educational values in his children. As a family, they shared a passion for raising cattle and growing wheat. Nothing made him more proud than when his children earned their degrees from Oklahoma State University. After completing their education, they returned home to continue the family tradition of farming and ranching. Recently his world revolved around his precious granddaughter, Callie Jane.
Thank you, Dad, for setting an example and establishing the Estes farming legacy.
