Obituary for James D. Wisner

James David (Jim) Wisner, 87, resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on March 31, 2021, in Altus, Oklahoma. Jim was born on May 26, 1933, in Watertown, Tennessee to Francis Earl and Annie Thelma (Burkett) Wisner. Jim and his family spent his early years in Monticello,
Arkansas, where Jim was baptized on Easter Sunday at the age of 12. The family later moved
to Cotton Plant, Arkansas where Jim graduated from high school. Jim went on to pursue his
undergraduate education at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and then The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Shook on December 27, 1955, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Jim enlisted in the Army in 1955 as a Chaplain’s Assistant and then transferred to the Air Force where he served 22 years as a Data Processor and Computer Programmer and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. Jim served our country throughout the United States and overseas in Hamilton, Bermuda, Diyarbakir, Turkey, and Zweibrucken, Germany. After his retirement from the US Air Force, he worked another 20 years as a Government Contractor with Telos. During his military service, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Education from Southern Illinois University, and even went on to earn his Master’s degree from Webster University. Jim served faithfully in his role of Deacon at First Baptist Church in Altus. He was also a member of Gideons International where he served in many leadership positions including; treasurer, secretary, and card distribution coordinator. Jim enjoyed sharing his love of the Lord, woodworking, visiting with friends, working on clocks, watches, and computers, playing games, and working on puzzles, but most of all, Jim cherished the time with his family.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Francis Earl Wisner, Jr., and Robert Edward
Wisner.
Left to honor his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Barbra Shook Wisner of the home; son, James Christian (Chris) Wisner of Washington, DC; daughter, Lydia Elizabeth Wisner Cox and husband John of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Katelyn Alyssa Cox, and Michael Austin (Mac) Cox of San Antonio, Texas; sisters–in–law, Barbara (Neff) Wisner, Jo Beth (Colvin) Wisner; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and nephews, as well as many close friends.
A visitation will be from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home, Altus Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma.

Services are under the direction of Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
