SHOUP

Royal Grant Shoup, age 76, of Blair, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015, at his residence northeast of Blair.

Mr. Shoup was born in Ashland, Ohio on April 17, 1938, to Chester A. and Mary Arte (Nell) Shoup. Royal, joined the Army National Guard at age fourteen. In 1955, he joined the United States Air Force where he spent time serving his country at Loring AFB, Maine, Lockbourne AFB, Ohio, Korea, Laos, Germany, four tours in Vietnam and retired in 1975 from Maxwell AFB, Alabama. Royal worked for the civil service for 18 years at Jacksonville AFB. On July 31, 1956, he married the love of his life, Arlene Fiendell, and they spent the next fifty-seven wonderful years together until his death. Royal and Arlene moved to Blair in 2005, where he lived until his death. In his spare time, Royal enjoyed coin collecting, fishing, hunting, traveling and cooking his awesome pastries, but most of all he loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Royal was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War, was a forth degree Knight of Columbus and he was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Altus.

Preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Laura Brooks; two sisters, Imelda Garlick and Eldora Straight and three brothers, Loren Shoup, Chester W. Shoup and John Shoup, he is survived by his wife, Arlene of the home; four children, Stephen Shoup and wife Arlene of Austin, Arkansas, Rebecca Malseed and husband Marshall of Blair, Angela Taylor and husband Randy of Ft. Worth, Texas and Paula Brown and husband Todd of Little Rock, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Lee Hamons, Amanda Petty, Andrea Anderson, Royal Joe Shoup, Jayson Brown, Bri-Ann Brown, Denver Brooks, Brandi Dunn, Yvette Shoup; sixteen great grandchildren; one sister, LaVonn Wynn of Sandusky, Ohio; two brothers, Martin Shoup of Milan, Ohio and Kenneth Shoup and wife Roberta of Milan, Ohio along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services for Royal Grant Shoup will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel.
