Melvin Lee Coble, age 79, of Mangum, passed away Monday evening, December 7, 2009, at English Village Manor, in Altus.
Mr. Coble was born on August 24, 1930, in Lott, Texas to Leon and Ruby (Bolin) Coble. As a young child, he moved to Littlefield, Texas where he lived until he joined the U.S. Army at age sixteen. After his discharge, Melvin returned to Littlefield and married Mary Chapman, who preceded him in death in 1966. In 1967, Melvin, Delcena Harper and their children moved to California where they made their home until 1969. For the next several years they lived in several different locations due to Melvin"s job. In the early 1980"s, they settled in Mangum where he made his home until his death.
Preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary; one brother, Cleon; two sisters, Betty Williams and Elsie Dugan; three children, Marvin Lee Coble, Wanda Joyce Coble and Melba Ruth Coble, he is survived by nine children, Cleatus Harper and wife Alla Ray of Mangum, Dan Harper and wife Gloria of Fritch, Texas, Mae Beresford and husband Gary of Willow, Patti Green and husband Jerry of Choctaw, Bobby Harper and wife Joyce of Mangum, Roger Dale Ritesman and his wife Sue of Plainview, Texas, Marilyn Kay Adams and husband Charles of Texaco, New Mexico, Dennis Coble and wife Donna of Altus and Bobby Joe Coble and wife Terrie of Fairfax, Oklahoma; forty-eight grandchildren, one hundred eight great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Melvin Lee Coble will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2009, at Greer Funeral Home Chapel with Mae Beresford officiating. Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
