Charles E. Knighton, 66, passed away Saturday, may 13, 1995, at the Air Force Base hospital in Altus, Oklahoma. Charles was born December 10, 1928 in Houston, Texas to Charles E. and Virgie E. Butler Knighton.
On October 16, 1948, Charles and Alberta Jones were united in marriage in Norfolk, Virginia. Mr. Knighton served in the United States Air Force. He retired from the service on February 1, 1973, as a Tech Sergeant after serving for 26 years 7 months and 21 days. Charles then worked for the Civil Service and retired from the Civil Engineering Squadron in 1985.
Charles was a very devoted member of the St. John's Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by Alberta, his wife of 46 years; one son Melvin Knighton of Amarillo, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Ollie and David Hart of Altus; an aunt and uncle, Johnny Mae and Albert Lewis of Wichita, Kansas; two nieces, Rosalyn Harris of Altus and Lucy Ann and Luther Walker of Anderson, South Carolina; a brother-in-law, Ralph Jones of Apalachicola, Florida; as well as Aurora, Jessica and Kendra Williams; Jeremy and Erica Harris, and a host of other relatives and friends.
