Erwin Fred Schmedt
Erwin Fred Schmedt, 84, died Monday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. The oldest of six sons, he was born April 15, 1911, at Stockdale, Texas to Wilhelm Frederick and Metta Thoms Schmedt. At an early age he moved with his family to a farm near Mathis, Texas. He attended all 11 grades of public school at Mathis. He received a Vocational Agricultural Education Degree from Texas Agriculture and Industrial College at Kingsville, Texas and a Masters
Degree from Texas Tech University at Lubbock.
Before and after World War II he taught Vocational Agriculture in both Oklahoma and Texas. During the war, he was an instructor for the United Sates Navy in Chicago and Norman, Oklahoma.
Erwin married Jeanette Alexander February 23, 1945, in Purcell, Oklahoma. IN 1960, he moved to Altus to join his father-in-law, Theodore Alexander, in farming enterprise in the Humpherys area. Erwin remained active in the farm operation until his death.
survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Theo Fred and Nancy Schmedt of Ardmore, Oklahoma; Wayne Edward and Linda Schmedt of Florissant, Mo., three brothers, , Walter and Bill of Mathis, Texas; and Harry of Hurst, Texas; grandsons, Stephen Fred Schmedt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Michael Alexander Schmedt of Ardmore Oklahoma; and Johathan Wayne Schmedth of Florissant, Mo,; Granddaughters, Cari Lynn (husband, David Buntin of San Antonio, Texas and Lindy Elizabeth Schmedt of Ardmore.
