Obituary for Raymond James Iken
Raymond J. Iken
Raymond J. Iken of Plantation Village Nursing Home , went to be with his Lord on Friday, November 3rd. Ray, one of Herman & Katherine Iken"s 13 children, was born in Fargo, ND on June 4th 1928 . At 16 he served in the Army Transport Service (Troop Ships) during WWII. Six of his eight brothers also went into the military during the war. In 1946 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, which later became the US Air Force. Ray met his wife Sue while stationed in Mississippi. They married in 1950. He served 20 years in the USAF working as a radar repairman and then as an air traffic controller. Ray was assigned to Altus AFB in 1959 . He served a year in VietNam during that conflict and retired a Master Sergeant in 1967. He was the Jackson County agent for Farm Bureau Insurance for many years. Ray and Sue bought a farm near Blair in 1960 and opened their home as a Christian Serviceman"s home ( a home for the airmen to enjoy on weekends, as they lived in 12 man barracks) from 1960 to 1985. Many of "the boys" trusted Christ as their Savior and today serve as leaders in their local churches. Ray and Sue taught weekly Bible classes at their home and at the Base Chapel for over 40 years. Ray is survived by two children, a son Dan and wife Ginny of Altus, and a daughter Jan Pennock of Spokane, WA. He had 5 grandchildren, Tammy Frizzell and husband John of Wichita, KS, Steve Iken and Julie Thaggard of Altus, Keith Pennock of Seattle, WA, and Nathan Pennock and wife Angie of Portland, OR. He also had 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Albert, John, Fred, George, Lyle, Dwyer, Lillian Scoville/Willard, and Gladys Knighten. Rays"s memorial service will be 10:00A.M Saturday , December 2nd at Lowell-Tims chapel. The family requests donations to The Gideon"s International or JCMH hospice in lieu of flowers.
