WILLIAMS

Phyllis Oneida Williams, age 60, of Altus, passed away Sunday evening, January 5, 2014, at her residence.

Mrs. Williams was born in Altus, Oklahoma on December 6, 1953, to Clarence Joseph and Martha (Hill) Paul. She attended Lincoln School until seventh grade where she attended Southeast Junior High. After graduating from Altus High in 1972, she attended Altus Junior College and was later employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone as an operator. Phyllis then moved to Kellwood for a short time before starting with Solvay Chemical, in Vernon, Texas as a lab technician and was later promoted to executive secretary for the company. On June 23, 1973, she married the love of her life, James A. Williams, in Altus, and spent the next forty wonderful years together before her untimely death. In 1994, Phyllis retired due to her health. A longtime member, and secretary of St. John Baptist Church, Phyllis was also the Worthy Matron for Lily of the Valley Chapter Number #135, Order of the Easter Star for seven years, a member for thirty years of Myrtle B. Scott Court #78, Heroines of Jericho, member of Menes Court #164 (Lawton, OK), Daughters of Isis, and Deborah Assembly #377 Past Loyal Lady Ruler for 2 years Order of the Golden Circle. In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed arts and crafts, scrapbooking, cooking, working on the computer, and spending time with her family and friends. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and going shopping with her girls. Phyllis is the granddaughter of the first black police officer killed in the line of duty in Altus, John Henry Hill. She did everything she could to keep his memory alive by getting the City of Altus to recognize Hill and work towards a memorial park in his honor.

Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her husband, James, of the home; two daughters, Whitney Jamico Williams of Altus and Nicolette Brianna Williams (Rydell Ursin) of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Byron-Phineas Malik Williams and Zyan Darius Williams; two brothers, Clarence Michael Paul of Lawton and Byron Leroy Paul of Oklahoma City along with many other relatives and friends.
