Obituary for Layton Brown
Layton Brown passed away Thursday, July 28, 1994 at 10 p.m., after a ten week illness. A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, August 2, 1994, at the University View Christian Church in Denver. Services for Layton will conclude in Altus, Oklahoma with a Graveside Service on August 10, 1994 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Altus City Cemetery with Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating.

Layton was born in Altus, Oklahoma to pioneer parents, Luther and Molly Blown.

He attended a Denver Pharmacy College in 1942. He then bought and managed the New Orient Drug Store in Altus for 17 years. In 1959, they sold the store and the family moved to Denver. He worked at the Yarbro Drug Store for 12 years until it was sold, and then for Orchard Pharmacy until he retired in 1988.

Layton was a charter member of the Lions Club of Altus, a former member of the Chamber of Commerce and a 32nd degree Mason with Masonic membership in Altus.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ella Walker Brown, also of pioneer parents, Henry and Callie Walker. They settled in Old Frazier before it was flooded and had to be moved to higher ground, and renamed Altus.

Layton is also survived by one son Russell and his wife Barbara, his brother, Douglas and his wife Verna of Oklahoma City. He was blessed with seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
