Wanda Lou Lankford, age 85, of Altus, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 13, 2014, at English Village Manor, in Altus, with her family at her side.
Mrs. Lankford was born in Blair, Oklahoma on March 25, 1928, to Willie Lindsey and Illa Katrina (Ashley) Fox. Growing up in the Blair area, Wanda graduated from Blair High School in 1946. On April 12, 1947, she married the love of her life, Lorenzo Stanton "Runt" Lankford and they spent the next fifty-two wonderful years together before his death in 1999. Living in Martha for a short time, they later moved to a dairy farm, southeast of Blair. In 1965 they moved to Altus where she lived until her death. A hard worker all of her life, Wanda spent over forty-five years in the dietary department at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, retiring as the supervisor in March of 2004. Wanda was a supporter of her children and her grandchildren"s activities and dearly loved her family and spending time with her relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Runt Lankford; her grandson, Kolby Lankford; one brother, Dale Fox; two sisters, Linda O"Dell and Kay Smith and a son-in-law, she is survived by; one brother, Bartley Fox; three children, Larry Lankford and daughter-in-law Judy of Duncan, Bonita Palmore and son-in-law Larry of Altus and Arnold Lankford and daughter-in-law Donna of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Melissa Neal and husband Roger of Duncan, Duane Lankford and wife Angela of Yukon, Crystal Bailey and husband Chuck of Mustang, Kris Lankford and wife Megan of Yorkville, Illinois, Dee Palmore and wife Susan of Wichita Falls, Texas and Stan Palmore and wife Kim of Purcell; one grand daughter-in-law, Ashley Vinyard and husband Charlie of Vacaville, California; eleven great grandchildren, Taylor Neal, Jake Neal, Autumn Brock, Miles Brock, Burke Bailey, Brylee Bailey, Kaydon Lankford, Landon Lankford, Claire Lankford, Collin Palmore and Katie Palmore; special friends, Lynda and Grady Vann along with many other relatives and friends, especially the staff at English Village Manor who were dearly loved by Wanda and her family.
Funeral services for Wanda Lankford will be at 2 p.m., Monday, March 17, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Greg Newton officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
