Obituary for Vera Avo "Gray" Jeitz
Vera Avo "Gray" Jeitz, age 88, of Altus, passed away Saturday, August 9th, 1986 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services have been set for Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Lowell Memorial Chapel. The Reverend C. C. Gober will officiate. Burial will be in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jeitz was born at Victory, OK on June 2nd, 1898. She was the daughter of James and Martha Gray who homesteaded at Victory on Thanksgiving Day of 1888. She moved to California in 1934 and returned to Altus in 1970. She was a Charter Member of the Eastern Star and was the first Worthy Matron. She married William Jeitz on November 17, 1976.
Survivors include: her husband, Bill Jeitz of the home; three nephews, Dr. Dale J. Austin of Dallas, TX, Judge Russell D. Austin of Andrews, TX and Dr. Stanley G. Childers of Pueblo, CO; three neices, Mrs. Lois Griffin of Sweetwater, TX, Mrs. Billy Joy Owens of Burkburnett, TX and Mrs. Marie Haralson of Houston, TX. A sister, Leta Icie Brown preceded her in death June 4, 1986.
