Gale Caswell, 88, a long-time resident of Hollis, OK passed away October 2, 2023 at OU Medical Center, Oklahoma City, OK.
Gale was born December 8, 1934, in Hollis, OK and grew up on a farm with his, parents Ben and Versie (Pierce) Caswell, three
older brothers, Troy, Kent and Lynn, and a younger sister, Doris. He graduated from Arnett High School west of Hollis. On Nov. 14, 1953, he married Mickey La June Trammell of Hollis. They were married 60 years until her death in 2014. They had two children, a son, Edward (Eddie) and daughter, Tammy. Gale always loved farming and ranching, but also had a career in
the grocery business, starting in two stores in Hollis and then with United Supermarkets as store manager in Cherokee, OK and
Frederick, OK. After 11 years in Frederick, he returned to Hollis in 1978 as owner of Caswell Food Center. He and Mickey
operated the store until selling it in 1995. Gale was a member of the First Baptist Church and active in civic organizations, serving as the President of the Frederick, OK Chamber of Commerce and President of the Frederick Rotary Club. He was long time member of the Hollis Chamber of Commerce. He owned farms and raised cattle in Tillman and Harmon counties and Collingsworth County, Texas. He and Mickey loved horses and for several years raised Quarter Horses and enjoyed attending rodeos. They were active in local square dance clubs where they made many lasting friendships. They also enjoyed helping with The Harmon County Historical Society’s Black-Eyed Pea Festival. For a number of years, Gale relished dressing up as Santa and visiting the Hollis nursing homes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mickey La June (Trammell) his son; Edward (Eddie); his parents, Ben and Versie Caswell and three older brothers Troy, Kent and Lynn; brothers-in-law, Donald Patterson, Don Clement and sister-in-law, Carthell.
He is survived by his dear companion Doris Hillix; daughter Tammy Hicks (Scott) of Hernando, MS. His grandchildren, Cole Morgan (Kristen) of Hernando, MS; Ty Davis (Brooke) of Olive Branch, MS; Grant Davis (Nakota) of Olive Branch, MS; Abby Franklin (Dave) of Clinton, MS and three great-grandchildren, Cameron and Rylee Morgan and Quinn Davis; his sister, Doris of Yukon, OK; his sister-in-law, Patsy Clement of Texas and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Visitation will be Saturday, October 14, 2023, 3-4:00 pm at First Baptist Church F.A.C. in Hollis, OK.
Services will be at the First Baptist Church of Hollis, OK Sunday, October 15, 2:00 pm and interment will be at Fairmount
Cemetery.
