Obituary for Gary Lynn Hall


Gary Lynn Hall, a devoted educator and beloved member of the Altus, Oklahoma community, peacefully passed away on May 21, 2024, at Saint Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City.


Born on March 2, 1943, to Raymond Hall and Elsie (Goucher) Hall in Clinton, Oklahoma, Gary's journey was marked by a lifelong commitment to education and service. He pursued his passion at Southwestern

College in Weatherford, earning a bachelor's degree in education. Furthering his academic pursuits, he obtained a master's degree from the University of Oklahoma, specializing in education.


Gary's teaching career spanned several states, including Oklahoma and Kansas, before he found his true calling with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. As an educator and teacher within the agency, he

imparted knowledge and values to inmates, particularly through the GED program. His dedication led him to the Victory Fields Correctional Academy in Vernon, Texas, where he continued to positively impact

young lives.


On June 19, 1966, Gary married the love of his life, Diane Gail Pike, at the First Baptist Church in Clinton, Oklahoma. Their union was blessed with a son, James "Gym" Hall.


Devoted to his faith and community, Gary was actively involved in organizations such as the Gideons and Rotary, where he was honored as a Paul Harris fellow. His Christian faith was the cornerstone of his

life, evident in his unwavering service at the First Baptist Church of Altus, where he served in various capacities.


In his leisure time, Gary enjoyed activities reflecting his curious and industrious spirit such as solving crossword puzzles, browsing garage sales, metal scrapping, and reading,


Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Diane Gail Hall, his father, Raymond, and mother, Elsie (Goucher)Hall Balentine, and his brothers, Ralph Hall and Patrick Ben P. (Pat) Hall.


He is survived by his son, James Hall, and wife Lauren, as well as niece Kim Digby, and nephews, Dale Hall, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Gary's legacy of kindness, dedication and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.


Viewing will be 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024, at Lowell -Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.


Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doug Altom officiating. Gary will be laid to rest next to his wife at Altus City Cemetery.
