Obituary for Jessie Lee Busby
Jessie Lee Busby, a cherished longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on July 10, 2024, at the age of eighty-six.
Born on September 22, 1937, in Idabell, Oklahoma, Jessie was the son of Dewey Busby and Lula Mae Jennings Busby. He attended school in Idabel before his family moved to Altus. From a young age, Jessie worked diligently as a farmhand, baling hay, chopping cotton, and mowing yards around town. Though his family temporarily relocated to Washington State. But Altus remained his true home, where he ultimately returned to spend the rest of his life.
Jessie's life was forever changed when he met Mary Ruth at the Salvation Army church. Their deep love led to a beautiful marriage that lasted 64 years, blessing them with a family Jessie deeply cherished. He loved Mary Ruth with all his heart, and his devotion to her was evident to all who knew them.
Jessie was a man of the outdoors, enjoying simple pleasures like sitting on the front porch with his coffee, picking fruit from the trees in the backyard, and, of course, fishing. He also loved quail and rabbit hunting. Known for his hard work and readiness to help anyone in need, Jessie was always there to lend a hand or listen, offering the best advice.
Jessie is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Christopher; daughter, Donna Busby; brothers James Busby, George Busby, Dewey Busby, Jr., and Melvin Busby; sisters Carolyn Busby Jones, Baby girl Busby; and great-grandchildren, Taylor Hitchcock and Dakota Rhine.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ruth Busby; son Allen Busby and wife Chrissy; daughters, Susan Doxsee, Paula Rapp and husband Paul, Lisa Milkowski and husband Mike, and Marsha Busby; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
